On August 14, 2024, the Cabinet approved the proposal from the consortium of Orascom Construction, ENGIE, and Toyota Tsusho Corporation to implement an additional up to 150 MW of wind power, which can be developed in parallel with the ongoing work on the consortium's existing 500 MW project in the Gulf of Suez, scheduled for completion in 2025. The additional capacity will be built under the same terms and prices as the original project agreements, utilizing an adjacent plot of land through a usufruct agreement. This land has already undergone wind and environmental studies by the consortium. The initiative is part of efforts to rapidly introduce additional renewable energy capacity before the summer of 2025 to meet rising electricity demand and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
