The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) successfully auctioned EGP 104 billion worth of Treasury bills (T-bills) on July 19 and 24, 2023, with an issuance date of July 25, 2023. The auction witnessed strong demand, with bids exceeding the required amount by two-fold. Out of the total offered amount of EGP 163 billion, the CBE accepted EGP 104 billion.
The T-bills were issued with four different maturities - 91, 182, 273, and 364-day. While there was a marginal increase of 0.05% in the yield of the 91-day T-bill from the previous auction, the yields on the 182-day, 273-day, and 364-day T-bills remained almost unchanged.
The stability in the yields of the longer-term T-bills indicates that investors are not anticipating significant changes in inflation over the medium term.
